I am in Kabul, Afghanistan and my friend needs to set up a motorola radio repeater and get some radios for his crew to communicate around the town. Does anyove have any advice on which systems would be good, and what a repeater costs. We'll be putting it on a house.

You should be able to find some old motorola systems that will run in the 440 band; they used to have these big clunkers that you mounted in the trunk, and they might do the trick.

Of course, the issues then become working up the control interface, and finding a duplexer. At least 440 MHz duplexers are smaller in size.

You could also try just running crossband and seeing if that works...if you had the right rigs for everyone else to use.

This is a contract deal. I think we are going with new equipment. we need hand held units that will transmit around Kabul and thinking of putting a repeater on a house centrally located.
