I'm interested in installing a CB radio in my 4x4.

What brand/model is best?

Cobra seems to still be making good working CBs.
I recommend studying for and getting an Amateur Radio license.
You'll have far more people at greater distance to talk with.

Yeah Cobra, Uniden / President all are pretty solid I think. It's been years since I have bought any CB radios. One of the first radios I had was a Radio Shack and it was a very rugged radio which took a lot of abuse. I'm not sure how good their radios are these days. I think if you are planning on spending less than around $100 it's pretty much a tossup. Generally you may be better off spending more for a good antenna (it can make more difference than the radio does).

I'll second what has been posted here, it's worth the time and effort to get a ham license and radio. The communication on ham bands and with ham gear is superior in almost every way.
