Hey..
What would happen if you all woke up tomorrow and suddenly the FCC was dissolved and all broadcasting regulations were completely repealed?
Would this be a good thing? Total chaos?
Just how limited is broadcasting bandwidth?
Is there a potential to have 1000's of stations running with relatively no interference?
I appreciate your answers, brainstorms, musings, etc.

BPL (broadband over power lines) shoved down our
throats.

Fri, September 24, 2004 - 10:01 AMThat which is scarce and desirable requires protection.
Radio spectrum is a scarce natural resource. All hell would break loose if anyone could use it and exploit it as they please.
One of the best comparisons I've heard is that the amateur bands are like a national park -- a natural resource preserved for non-commercial recreation and exploration. Only public ownership -- that is, government -- can accomplish this preservation.
The problem with BPL is that the asinine Republican FCC is trying to legalize commercial exploitation of a natural preserve. It's the equivalent of arctic drilling or turning our national parks over to MacDonald's.
Hams tend to be old and Republican. Like about half of the population of the U.S., they don't have a lick of sense about where their interests lie and how they're being raped and robbed by the current administration. -
