Hi there! I am here in San Francisco, need to get a new radio but I have access to them.

If you are in SF, you can meet other hams by coming up on the CARLA 2 repeater.

    N6QOO
    Freq: 442.075
    pl 100.0
    Carla #2 (San Francisco)

If you want training... well, maybe we should meet and talk. It's easiest to get a technician's license. Just start studying for the test, there are online resources for that. Then get a radio and go to town.

A good introduction to the whole subject of amateur radio
    is <Now You're Talking!>, 5th ed. ($19.95). It is available
at Ham Radio Outlet, 2210 Livingston St. (I-880 at
23rd Ave. ramp), Oakland, CA 94606. Tel. 800-854-6046
    or 510-5345757.

You may fight out more about amateur radio by checking
the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Web site:

    www.arrl.org

It has lots of different links and threads. You may
download the entire multiple-choice question pool
(including correct answers) from this site.

Practice license examinations are available online
from the Web site of the West Valley Amateur
Radio Association (to which I belong):

    www.wvara.org

You may also contact the ARRL San Francisco
section manager for information about radio clubs,
    training classes, etc. near you:

    Bill Hillendahl, KH6GJV
    PO Box 4151
    Santa Rosa, CA 95402-4151

i'm taking the NERT program. they definately see it as very important that every team have a radio operator.

i don't really have time for a new hobby. but i'd like to watch someone do it. but i will check on the trade association group. cheers!
