Re: Straight Key Night
Wed, December 29, 2004 - 3:04 PMYou know, back when I used to have to handle this very event at ARRL, we used to call it Silent Key Night.
It's a great night to bring out old vintage gear, too!

Re: Straight Key Night
Thu, December 30, 2004 - 11:51 AMI look forward to the event each year. Since I use a straight key
year-round (a surplus Soviet Cherkassy TK), it makes me happy
to have QSOs with other straight key ops. It's usually far from
silent--there will always be time for us to become Silent Keys--
that fate is inevitable!
---
The vintage gear is all gone. But I like Straight Key Night
because I can fire up the QRP CW rig on 20M and hope to
have a few QSOs. With the high QRN conditions on the HF bands
in the last year, oftentimes the entire CW portions of the HF
bands will be white noise only--never a melodious CW note to
be heard.
---
Hope you'll be operating on SKN.

Re: Straight Key Night
Thu, December 30, 2004 - 12:03 PMI'll certainly try to get on and look for you, Loren...what time are you going to be on, you think, and where on 20 do you normally hang out?
Unless the gale winds here take down the antenna farm...

Re: Straight Key Night
Fri, December 31, 2004 - 1:37 PMI hope to be on starting tonight after 2030 PST/0430 GMT.
The QRP guys hang out at +/- 14.060 MHz. That is also
where the QRP CW contests are to be found
(FISTS, ARS, etc.). The ARS contest will be next Monday
night, Jan. 3, 2005, from 1800-2000 PST/0200-0400 GMT.
Check out the Adventure Radio Society web site for additional
details.
